Just to give you some background on me (so you can take what I say which has a grain of salt, based on what you're seeking using this game) I mostly play racing games that lean far more toward the simulator side (modified versions of GTR2, GTR Evo/Race 07, rFactor, Richard Burns Rally). We've a G25 steering wheel and have my pedals & shifter mounted on stands to more accurately place them where they could be in the car. I'll spend hours attempting to whittle away seconds from your lap time. So imagine how excited I utilized to be after looking at the technology video on Shift 2.
Out with the box, the sport was nearly unplayable for the PC. What it feels like to me is that the game was probably ported to PC, then given a quick slap of force feedback (FFB) that isn't anywhere near being well tuned, to be able to obtain the games released on the same time on all platforms. I have faith that this because I do not believe the physics are entirely to blame here, but after playing other sims and then playing this one, you literally don't get any feedback with what the vehicle is performing other compared to the resistance of the turn or striking the wall & other cars (you can't tell what are the tires are doing, nor the springs, or the way the weight from the car is shifting). In a great racing sim, you are able to feel when your vehicle starts losing traction in a turn, allowing you to make corrections (letting from the gas, etc). But in Shift 2 it is very difficult for me personally to inform what are the chassis is doing. The opening part from the game has you drive a Nissan GT-R (an advanced AWD vehicle) around a small course, so you just about can't drive it aggressively through the get-go because you can not feel what the car is doing. It misleads you into believing you're going to make a corner, and after that the vehicle slides out sideways without notice (you can't feel anything, you merely see it happening). Anyone who has played GTR2/Evo/rFactor knows what I'm talking about. You are able to jump between various styles of cars in those sims so if you feel an experienced driver you are able to adjust on the new car in a few turns simply because it is achievable to feel what the vehicle likes & doesn't like, the FFB programming in those sims is the actual fact that good. It's not that way at all in Shift 2. Switching from your GT-R on the Alfa Romeo (first car you happen to be awarded inside the game) wasn't much of the difference in feel at all. Even with purchasing chassis parts & new tires, it felt exactly the same i never felt confident products the automobile was capable or otherwise not capable of. You'll basically just wind up learning your acceptable corner speeds along with the best driving line without feeling what the car is doing, which entirely detracts from what a simulation is about. I get this to distinction only because EA made this kind of huge deal about how precisely realistic this game was going to be. And for someone who is regarding the driving aspect from the game, you're planning to feel as if something is missing. That outcomes of man and machine. It's a many more like being a witness to many very pretty graphics.
Private parties (modders) have already created a few mods to correct some from the issues on this game. There's a fix to make the sidewalls with the tires stiffer and so the a reaction to turning has been enhanced (feels less mushy), i think there's a mod to remove some of the outcomes of colliding along with other objects that result in the lag issue. But this game feels as though it's unfinished, if only because with the sub-par FFB. Some with the new effects are nice, like the inside-helmet view, the look-to-apex function (which takes some getting used to, since I use TrackIR in other sims, and Shift 2 doesn't support TrackIR [but there's a mod for TrackIR support already too]). Hopefully EA patches this game soon. It truly is really a solid 4 or 5-star game, marred by inadequate feedback support. Heck, if you're planning to participate in it on PC which has a gamepad you could really such as this game. It is unquestionably fun (FFB issues aside) and appearance great, it just needs some TLC from EA to produce it more of your complete offering for people who drive which has a steering wheel setup and take their racing games seriously (again, I only mention this because EA made much ado about how realistic this game was going to be).
EDIT - Okay, 1 week plus a lot of forum research later, I'm starting to have this dialed in with my G25 wheel. First of all, you need the latest Logitech Profiler software, and you will should set the spring effect strength and damper effect strength to around 40% roughly (more or less to accommodate your taste). Most sims don't use these effects, so we tend to set both of them to 0%, but EA built their FFB round the use of those two effects, at exactly the same time as the FFB strength (which I have at 113% currently). I will be using 362 examples of rotation within the Profiler software (not the entire 900 like We've within my other sims), and I've the Profiler set approximately launch off from the Shift 2 executable (you can try this under Edit -> Properties within the Profiler software). In-game, I have the wheel set to 50% sensitivity with 360 levels of steering lock. You can widen these figures if you want (460-540 or so) but for whatever reason it feels really loose to accomplish so in this particular game, and you may be turning the wheel excessively. Now, with these settings inside a stock vehicle, it still probably won't feel quite right. That is because you still should get into each and every car you own in-game and adjust the steering lock in the car's tuning settings itself. Each car will be at default 20 steering lock, and a lot need to be lowered (for instance, I'm using 18 for the Lotus Elise 111). Plus, the feel in the cars gets proportionally better should you buy better tires & suspension and adjust them halfway decent. It's a shame that EA didn't allow it to be simpler to just hook increase wheel and go, but no less than we're figuring this stuff out. I am as it has seriously marred what could are already a fantastic launch with this game on PC. Also, EA has confirmed which they are coming out which has a patch that will eliminate some of the lag in steering response, but I'm uncertain when that may be. But just how I have it setup now is miles better of computer was after i first started playing it, and I'm really starting to enjoy it around I'd originally hoped...

I was for the fence even trying out based around the reviews, but having ever done it I now know SHIFT 2 has become a seriously undeserved bum rap. Finding it for $25-$1.5 ebay bucks on ebay shipped was enough to me to provide it a go.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
It's worth much a much more than some tips i paid, though I'm glad I acquired a great deal; I can't like spending a much more than $30 to get a title. EA, you are due, so you hit out from the park! Playing it feels amazing. It doesn't take tinkering to acquire it playing nice, just a number of basic considerations. The game play is silky smooth on my current PC...
But there are several things I'd like to share with all of you current disappointed and potential players because SHIFT 2 is obtaining a bum rap. And I Also can sort of see why, however also know why it isn't right. In case you are for the fence or discounted SHIFT 2 without trying it (properly), please read my whole review and reconsider. I need EA to obtain proper feedback and come by helping cover their great titles similar to this one and best of all racers inside future as opposed to accommodating crasher kids on and on inside wrong direction using development. (But if SHIFT 2 is how EA peaks, then it's still a win during my book because SHIFT 2 will be the best NFS title to date.) SHIFT 2 isn't merely a fun game, it's more advance than that.
